MY Parang Lading 12"
BMC Bladeworks is proud to present the MY Parang Lading 12".
Having its roots for a long time in the Malay culture, the Parang Lading is a quite popular traditional designed parang.
It is believed to originate from the state of Kedah, Malaysia. The Parang Lading is also used in the Silat Cekak (Traditional Malaysian martial arts), other than as an agricultural tool. There are some slight differences in the everyday tool and the ones used in Silat cekak.
One of the main difference is that for Silat Cekak, the Parang Lading needs to be made to match the owners arm. There are specific ways on how to measure this. Why does it need to be so? It is believed that a proper sized tool (matched with the owner) will not “bite” the user / owner. This is very important.
Another difference is that the Parang lading used in Silat Cekak is usually only sharp about 1-2 inches from the tip. This is done so the unsharpened part of the blade is used to stop or deflect. The agricultural version has perhaps 10 inches of sharpened edge (on a 12 inch blade).

Care Instructions:
The Lading 12" is made from 5160 Carbon Steel. To keep the steel free from signs of oxidation or corrosion; please ensure it is cleaned, oiled and ensure it is put away dry. Using "wet wipes" or other chemical cleaning products may discolour the blade.
We suggest using the cleaning cloth provided to remove clearance debris and dirt, a generous squirt of 3-IN-ONE oil (manufactured by WD40) onto the blade and carefully wiped down after use will keep the steel in optimal condition.
High-kinetic use of any outdoor blade will result in the cutting edge dulling. 5160 is an easy to sharpen steel by simply using a whetstone. Learning how to do this effectively is an incredibly useful skill for the future maintenance of all your bladed articles.
Always store the blade in it's provided ballistic nylon sheath, away from children and in a safe, cool, dry place.
