MY Parang Duku Chandong 10"
BMC Bladeworks is proud to present the MY Parang Duku Chandong 10".
The Duku Chandong (sometimes known as the Ray Mears parang) originates from East Malaysia (Borneo), where it is a very common everyday utility blade.
Its defining features are the strong sheepsfoot tip and the up-swept spine.
The sheepsfoot tip is exceptionally robust and excellent for prying and digging, while the raised handle ensures the blade makes contact first, helping to protect your knuckles when working close to the ground or against solid objects such as tree trunks.
The blade also carries a gentle upward curve that delivers an effective slicing action, making it particularly useful for clearing lighter vegetation and garden tasks.
BMC Bladeworks stock two variants of the Duku Chandong:
- 12″ Duku Chandong — The most popular and versatile all-rounder. It provides an excellent balance of reach, control, and weight for a wide range of outdoor and garden work.
- 10″ Duku Chandong — Shorter and lighter, ideal when portability is important or for smaller, more detailed tasks. Despite its compact size, it still performs well for chopping.
For users wanting lower blade weight and effective shorter blade dynamics, the 10″ version is generally the best choice.
All versions feature hand-forged 5160 high carbon steel with distal taper, eco beech wood handles, and the same high-quality construction details as the rest of the MY Parang range.

Care Instructions:
The 10″ Duku Chandong is made from 5160 Carbon Steel. To keep the steel free from signs of oxidation or corrosion; please ensure it is cleaned, oiled and ensure it is put away dry. Using "wet wipes" or other chemical cleaning products may discolour the blade.
We suggest using the cleaning cloth provided to remove clearance debris and dirt, a generous squirt of 3-IN-ONE oil (manufactured by WD40) onto the blade and carefully wiped down after use will keep the steel in optimal condition.
High-kinetic use of any outdoor blade will result in the cutting edge dulling. 5160 is an easy to sharpen steel by simply using a whetstone. Learning how to do this effectively is an incredibly useful skill for the future maintenance of all your bladed articles.
Always store the blade in it's provided ballistic nylon sheath, away from children and in a safe, cool, dry place.
