The Vanguard is inspired by a traditional British pattern Golok, but our interpretation takes the blade to a completely new level. Available in Raw Stonewash and Stonewashed Black Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating.

This is an incredibly useful camping and gardening tool.

The Vanguard weighs just 600g and overall length of 511mm. The weight savings are gained through having a distal tapered blade - from 5mm at the handle to a slicey 2.8mm at the tip.

It also has a faceted spine, positioned to not compromise batoning, but to limit deep-chop-pinching and reduce overall blade weight. Finally a skeletonised full tang keeps the weight forward where it's needed.

Improvements include:

  • 3D shaped super ergonomic Micarta handle for great grip and hours of comfortable use.
  • Faceted blade design includes a confined swedge and numerous lanyard points for adaptability in various environments.
  • High toughness and wear-resistant SK5 Carbon steel blade, it's a renowned steel remarkably chip resistant and easy to sharpen in the field.
  • Kydex sheath with D-ring dangler for secure carry and storage.
  • This blade has been designed and built to be a dependable, efficient and long lasting survival tool.

The Vanguard is one of the finest, most carefully designed and engineered large blades we make. Perfected for intense outdoor applications.

Colour options:

  • Raw Stonewash finish, Tan Micarta, Red liners
  • Black stonewashed PVD coat, OD Green Micarta, Tan liners

The BMC Vanguard Golok is legal to own and use responsibly on private land in the UK.

Care Instructions:

The Vanguard is made from SK5 Carbon Steel. To keep the steel free from signs of oxidation or corrosion; please ensure it is cleaned, oiled and ensure it is put away dry. Using "wet wipes" or other chemical cleaning products may discolour the blade.

We suggest using the cleaning cloth provided to remove clearance debris and dirt, a generous application of 3-IN-ONE oil (manufactured by WD40) onto the blade and carefully wiped down after use will keep the steel in optimal condition.

High-kinetic use of any outdoor blade will result in the cutting edge dulling. SK5 is an easy to sharpen steel by simply using a whetstone. Learning how to do this effectively is an incredibly useful skill for the future maintenance of all your bladed articles.

Always store the blade in it's provided kydex sheath, away from children and in a safe, cool, dry place.

Customer Reviews:

'I’ve been using my machete now for several months and it’s really useful
for my forestry work. I’ve had to hack my way through countless clumps
of Bracken, Brambles, thorn bushes, etc. and it’s done the job every
time. It’s alsovery good at pruning side branches and shoots, especially when you’re
marking trees to be felled.

'I'm in love with it. I like the weight and balance. The size is perfect. Not too big, not too small. Fits in the day sack snugly.' ~ Rajinder S. UK

'I have recently received the Vanguard golok and used it today for the
first time. You've smashed it out the park with one! Perfectly balanced
and supreme quality. Talking to you at the British shooting show I could
see you take pride in your work and it shows. So thank you very much.
